Wedding Vendor Facebook Ads Malaysia (2026)
How Malaysian wedding and event vendors run Meta ads: the real DOSM marriage months, portfolio Reels, package carousels, click-to-WhatsApp date enquiries, and long retargeting.
Updated August 2026 · Xanny Lee, CEO

Malaysia does not have one wedding season, it has two. DOSM recorded 190,304 marriages in 2024, and Muslim marriages peaked in February (14.4% of the Muslim total) while non-Muslim marriages peaked in September (11.0% of the non-Muslim total). Because couples book a year or more ahead, the highest-value Meta mechanic for a wedding vendor is the engagement custom audience: Meta's own docs allow up to 730 days of retention for Facebook Page and Instagram business profile engagers, against only 90 days for lead generation ads.
You shoot weddings, rent pelamin, cater kenduri, or run a hall, and your enquiries arrive in waves you have never been able to predict. Everyone tells you there is a wedding season. There is, but it is not the one you think, and it is not the same one for every couple you serve. This guide starts with the actual government marriage data by month, then builds the Meta setup around it: portfolio Reels, package carousels, click-to-WhatsApp date enquiries, and a retargeting window long enough to survive a booking cycle that runs months to a year or more ahead of the date.
Malaysia does not have a wedding season, it has two
Ask ten Malaysian wedding vendors when the season is and you will get five answers, all delivered with total confidence. December. Year end. School holidays. After Raya. Almost nobody checks the one dataset that settles it, even though it is free, official, and published every year.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia records every marriage and breaks the total down by month. In 2024 there were 190,304 marriages nationwide, up 0.9% on 2023, with the crude marriage rate holding at 5.6 per thousand population. Now the part that matters for your ad account. February 2024 was the single biggest month, with 24,512 marriages, or 12.9% of the year. December was second, with 23,088, or 12.1%. September was third, with 20,731, or 10.9%. The quietest month was March, with just 11,328, or 6.0%.
Read those two ends against each other. February carried more than twice the marriages of March. If your budget is flat across the year, you are spending the same money into a month with half the demand as you spend into your best one.
Then split the same year by community and the picture changes again. Muslim marriages, 137,595 of them in 2024, peaked in February at 19,798, which is 14.4% of the Muslim total, and bottomed in March at 6,732, or 4.9%. Non-Muslim marriages, 52,709 in 2024, peaked in September at 5,773, or 11.0%, and bottomed in August at 2,826, or 5.4%. February and September. Two different peaks, seven months apart.
So "the Malaysian wedding season" is a phrase that averages away the only thing you needed to know. If you shoot Malay weddings in Kedah and your competitor shoots Chinese weddings in Johor Bahru, you are not in the same business cycle at all, and you should not be running the same media plan.
Your season depends on who you actually serve
Work out which curve you are on before you touch Ads Manager. Most vendors serve both communities to some degree, but rarely in equal measure, and the mix decides your calendar.
Our archive of Malaysian ads shows this split plainly in how vendors talk. Fixer Photography has run both: English carousels hooked on "Unrepeatable . Unforgettable" and "2026 Open for BOOKING", listing wedding day, pre-wedding and ROM as separate services, alongside Chinese-language creative aimed squarely at 2026 brides ("2026 新娘看这里") that asks couples to DM their wedding date. Sallorist Bridal And Event has advertised entirely in Malay around pelamin, baju pengantin, and majlis, covering Batu Caves, Selayang, Ampang, Cheras, and the wider Klang Valley.
Those two vendors sit on different curves. Fixer's couples sit on the non-Muslim curve that peaked in September 2024; Sallorist's sit on the Muslim curve that peaked in February. That is an inference from the language of their creative, not a measurement of either business. And remember what the DOSM table counts: wedding dates, not enquiries. If couples book a year out, your enquiry peak leads the marriage peak by roughly that much, which is exactly why the closing exercise in this guide is to plot your own cost per booked date against the DOSM month share rather than trusting either curve raw.
Geography reinforces it. DOSM's 2024 breakdown puts the most Muslim marriages in Petaling, Selangor (7,150), then Johor Bahru (6,801) and Ulu Langat (5,159). For non-Muslims, Johor Bahru led with 4,055, then Petaling with 3,865, and Klang with 2,440. Both communities concentrate in the same handful of districts, which is useful: your radius targeting can stay tight while your calendar and your creative language do the segmentation work.
One more targeting detail worth having. The median age at marriage in 2024 was 29 for grooms and 27 for brides, and the largest single cohort for both was 25-29. That does not mean you should hard-clamp your age targeting to 25-29 and cut everyone else out, because parents book and pay for a great many Malaysian weddings, and a mother researching a hall is a real buyer sitting well outside that band. It does tell you whose face and whose language belongs in the creative.
Why last year's calendar will mislead you
Here is the trap for anyone who does read the data: reading it once.
The peak moves. December was the top marriage month in 2023, with 24,231 marriages, or 12.8% of that year, and DOSM's earlier release stated plainly that December was also the most popular month of marriage in 2021, with June the least popular for both Muslim and non-Muslim marriages that year. Two data points saying December. Then February took 2024. The trough moved with it, from April in 2023 (9,850, or 5.2%) to March in 2024 (11,328, or 6.0%).
The most likely reason is Ramadan, which shifts against the Gregorian calendar by roughly eleven days each year and drags the quiet month with it. Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 was declared for Saturday 22 April by the Keeper of the Ruler's Seal, and April 2023 was that year's lowest month. Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2024 was officially declared for Wednesday 10 April by the Keeper of the Ruler's Seal, placing Ramadan across March, and March 2024 was that year's lowest month.
Be honest about what that is: a strong observed correlation across two years, with primary-sourced Raya dates on both. It is not a proven cause, and two years is a thin series. But the operational advice survives the uncertainty intact. Open the current year's Islamic calendar, find where Ramadan falls, and expect your quiet stretch to sit near it. Do not assume February will spike in 2027 because it spiked in 2024. If you serve non-Muslim couples, none of this applies to your curve at all, which is exactly the point of splitting them.
One caveat on freshness. DOSM's November 2025 release reports 2024 data. There is no published monthly figure for 2025 until the following release lands. So the monthly table is always about a year behind, which makes it a planning input rather than a live signal, and makes your own enquiry log the faster indicator.
The two-year audience nearly every vendor throws away
This is the mechanic that should change how you build campaigns, and it is buried in Meta's developer documentation rather than any marketing blog.
Engagement custom audience retention is not a flat 365 days. Plenty of 2026 marketing posts repeat that number and it is simply wrong. Per Meta's own Marketing API docs, the maximum retention is 730 days for a Facebook Page and 730 days for an Instagram business profile. Shopping and augmented reality are capped at 365 days. Lead generation ads are capped at just 90 days. Page-likes audiences carry no retention limit at all. Meta's stated reason is that for legal and privacy requirements, different maximum retention days apply to each event source type.
Now hold that against how a wedding actually gets booked. A couple gets engaged. They browse for months. They visit an expo. They shortlist. They book a hall, then a photographer, then a caterer, in staggered decisions spread across the run-up to the date. A bride who watched thirty seconds of your Reel in March may not message you until the following January. A 90-day window loses her completely. A 730-day window is still holding her.
No published figure tells you how far ahead Malaysian couples book, and you should be suspicious of anyone who quotes one. Your own enquiry log does tell you: pull your last fifty bookings, measure the gap between first contact and the wedding date, and you have the retention window your account actually needs. In this category that gap is almost always longer than 90 days, which is the whole argument.
So the asymmetry writes your strategy for you. Video views, Page engagement, and Instagram profile engagement are your long-life assets, and you should be building audiences from them at maximum retention from day one, even before you have anything to sell them. Lead form audiences are the short-life ones, and if you treat a lead-ads audience as your retargeting pool, it evaporates a quarter after it fills. Our guide to Facebook retargeting covers the mechanics of stacking these windows.
The practical build is three layers. A broad prospecting layer running portfolio Reels to your districts. A retargeting layer against Page and Instagram engagers at long retention, running package and proof creative. A close layer for people who messaged but never booked, which for most vendors is where the money already is.
Reels of real shoots, built the way Meta says to build them
The good news for a wedding vendor is that you already own the best possible creative. You shoot weddings. The footage is the ad.
Meta's own Reels ad guidance is specific and worth following literally. Build vertical at a 9:16 aspect ratio. Keep key messages inside the Reels safe zone, so your text does not sit under the UI. Use audio. Meta states that over 75% of Reels views on Instagram are sound on, which is an Instagram-only figure rather than a Facebook one, and it makes silent, text-only cuts a poor fit for the placement. Meta also claims that campaigns built to its Reels creative essentials see two times higher delivery to the Reels placement, though that is Meta's own unaudited marketing claim, so treat it as directional rather than a number to forecast against. Our guide to Meta ad aspect ratios has the full placement specs.
What works in this category is real work, shown fast. Sweetpictures, a photography and videography outfit advertising seventeen years of experience, used a hook that names the reader's actual panic: "Majlis nak dekat tapi belum ada photographer lagi?" It works because it is true, and because the vendor can answer it with footage in the next three seconds.
Dokoh Ratna Bridal Boutique has run video around a sharper version of the same fear: you only get to be a bride once, and picking the wrong boutique is a regret that lasts years. Serendah Event Hall's one archived ad is a testimonial, a couple describing their own majlis at the hall, straight to camera. Rainbow Hantaran Perkahwinan & Home Deco has run walkthrough video from inside the Subang Jaya shop. None of these are polished brand films. They are proof.
Representative angles from our archive of Malaysian ads, in the form worth stealing:
- Showcase ad for the couple whose date is close and who still has no photographer (Sweetpictures)
- Testimonial ad for a real couple describing their reception at the hall (Serendah Event Hall)
- Showcase ad for hantaran sets you can see in person before you book (Rainbow Hantaran Perkahwinan & Home Deco)
- Announcement ad for next year's booking calendar opening across wedding day, pre-wedding and ROM (Fixer Photography)
- Feature Callout ad for the boutique that finally understands what a bride wants (Dokoh Ratna Bridal Boutique)
Cut the Reel from a real shoot, put the strongest three seconds first, and let the couple's own reaction carry it. Compare that with Facebook Reels versus Stories ads if you are deciding where to place the budget.
Package carousels: build five cards, not ten
Once a couple is interested, they want to know what things include and what they cost. The carousel is built for exactly that, but most vendors build it wrong.
Meta's Graph API reference specifies carousel child attachments as a 2-5 element array of link objects. You reach ten cards only by setting multi_share_optimized to true, and even then Meta states it will automatically optimise the order in which the carousel cards are shown and display the top five. Meta strongly recommends at least three attachments for optimal performance.
Read that carefully, because it kills a common instinct. A ten-card brochure of every package tier does not get you ten cards of attention. It gets you five cards chosen by Meta, in an order you did not pick. Build five deliberate cards instead.
In one Sallorist Bridal And Event carousel, the ladder ran exactly this way: Pakej Nikah at RM1,650 with a 10ft pelamin, baju nikah for both, one makeup session, and the bantal and meja nikah; Pakej Rumah at RM2,800 with a 15ft pelamin, baju sanding for both, full accessories, one makeup session, pintu gerbang, walkway and red carpet, and the hiasan meja makan beradap; Pakej Dewan at RM3,500 with a 25ft pelamin and the full set. The same page has also run a different ladder entirely (Pakej Nikah RM2,000, Pakej Rumah RM2,899, Pakej Dewan RM3,500), which is the point worth absorbing: these are campaign offers, not price lists. Either way the ladder is five cards without padding: three tiers, one proof card of a real majlis, one card that tells the couple how to ask about their date.
Aliyyah Castle Wedding Event has run the same logic from the venue side, leading its Pakej Kahwin Raya on a deposit as low as RM3,000 and listing what the package folds in: an air-conditioned hall, pelamin and decoration, catering, photography, emcee, and PA system. Fixer Photography went the other way and put a single number in the creative itself, a one-image ad reading WEDDING DAY, RM5,800, 1 photographer, 1 videographer, limited offer only. Sweetpictures built a year-end carousel around a 26% discount worth up to RM1,400, a deposit as low as RM300, interest-free instalments, validity for 2026 and 2027 events, and free transportation for selected areas.
Those are real vendors' own offers from specific past campaigns, not benchmarks and not standing price lists, and your own numbers will differ. What transfers is the structure. Lead with the tier a couple can actually afford, show the work, and make the last card an invitation to ask about a date. Carousel versus single image ads covers when the format is worth it at all.
Click-to-WhatsApp is built for the question couples actually ask
Every wedding enquiry in Malaysia starts with the same sentence: is this date still free?
That is a terrible fit for a lead form and a perfect fit for a chat. You cannot answer it with a dropdown, and the couple will not wait 24 hours to find out. Look at how vendors in our archive of Malaysian ads have actually routed this. Sweetpictures sent its carousel straight to a WhatsApp thread with a "Chat with us" card. Sallorist told readers to click the WhatsApp button three times in a row in the same caption, which is inelegant and clearly effective. Dokoh Ratna closed on the WhatsApp button to claim the promo.
Meta's requirements are modest. Ads that click to WhatsApp need a Facebook Page with a WhatsApp number linked either manually or through the API. They support image, video, carousel and slideshow creative. They publish to Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. The default greeting the customer sees is "Hello! Can I get more info on this?" and it is customisable, which is the setting most vendors leave untouched and should not. Replace it with something that collects the date and location on the first message, because the greeting is doing the work your form field would have done. Call-prompt campaigns need the OUTCOME_ENGAGEMENT objective.
Forms are not useless here. They suit the slower, considered flows, which is why MANGO Chutney, a caterer serving Malaysian Indian weddings across the Klang Valley for over ten years, has run video that ends on a form and promises to reach out within 24 hours to arrange a complimentary food tasting. A tasting is a scheduling problem, not a date-availability problem, so a form fits. But remember the retention asymmetry: that lead-ads audience expires at 90 days while your Page engagers last 730. Our comparison of lead forms versus WhatsApp ads in Malaysia works through the trade-off, and WhatsApp ads in Malaysia goes deeper on greeting scripts and response handling.
Malaysia's reach makes either mechanic viable. DataReportal's Digital 2026 report puts Facebook ad reach at 23.0 million people, 63.7% of the population, and Instagram ad reach at 16.1 million, or 44.6%, with 30.7 million social media user identities in total, reflecting data available in October 2025. Your couples are unambiguously there. Precision, not reach, is your constraint.
What a wedding lead costs, honestly
You will find local agencies quoting a confident ringgit cost per wedding lead. Ask where it came from. There is no verified Malaysia-specific cost per lead, cost per click, cost per mille, or cost per booking for wedding and event vendors in any reputable published source.
What exists is US data. WordStream's 2025 Facebook Ads benchmarks include a category explicitly labelled "Personal Services (Weddings, Cleaners, etc.)". For leads-objective campaigns it recorded a cost per lead of USD 30.57, against an all-industry average of USD 27.66. The same category showed a 1.99% click-through rate, a USD 2.08 cost per click, and a 6.51% conversion rate, from US campaigns run between 1 April 2024 and 30 June 2025. Year over year, the category's click-through rate fell 17% and its conversion rate fell 32%.
Those are US dollars from US campaigns and they must not be turned into a ringgit figure. Read them for two things only. First, wedding-adjacent leads sit slightly above the all-industry average rather than in the punishing tier some categories occupy, so this is not an unaffordable category to advertise in. Second, the year-over-year direction is down on both engagement and conversion, which is a warning that yesterday's creative decays.
Set your budget in ringgit in your own terms instead. Decide what a booked date is worth to you, work back from your close rate on WhatsApp enquiries, and let the DOSM curve tell you which months deserve the weight. Then measure the only metric that matters: cost per booked date, not cost per lead. A vendor closing one in four WhatsApp threads can afford a lead price that would ruin a vendor closing one in twenty. For general ringgit expectations, Facebook ads cost in Malaysia sets a sensible baseline, and how to run a Facebook ad covers pacing.
PDPA: you are holding names, numbers, and wedding dates
There is no wedding-specific advertising regulator in Malaysia. No equivalent of the dental council or the medicine advertisement board polices your creative. What does apply is data protection law, because a lead form and a WhatsApp thread together hold a couple's names, phone numbers, wedding date, venue, and budget, which is a genuinely sensitive picture of two people's lives.
Federal Gazette P.U.(B) 522, dated 19 December 2024 and published on 24 December 2024, staged the Personal Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2024 into force: sections 7, 11, 13 and 14 from 1 January 2025, sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 and 12 from 1 April 2025, and sections 6 and 9 from 1 June 2025. It was signed by Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital. One correction worth carrying: the Act is A1727, not A1719, which several secondary summaries get wrong.
The Commissioner's circular on data breach notification sets the obligations that would actually bite you. A data controller must submit the prescribed information to the Commissioner within 72 hours of a personal data breach, and give affected data subjects the prescribed information within 7 days after that notification is made to the Commissioner, where the breach causes or is likely to cause significant harm. Note the direction of that second clock: it runs from your notification to the Commissioner, not from the breach. Failing to notify the Commissioner may attract a fine not exceeding RM250,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years, or both.
Two honest caveats. The circular is published in Bahasa Malaysia only, and the figures above are a reading of the Malay text, so confirm them against the document at pdp.gov.my. The pdp.gov.my page also titles it as circular number 1/2025 while the PDF itself is headed as number 2 of 2025, so cite it by description rather than by number. None of this is a reason to panic. It is a reason to keep your enquiry spreadsheet somewhere sensible, off the staff WhatsApp group and off a personal laptop.
Putting the calendar and the mechanics together
The whole plan collapses into a few decisions.
Work out your community mix, because it decides whether your curve peaks in February or September. Pull the current DOSM release rather than trusting last year's memory, and check where Ramadan falls this year before you set the trough. Weight budget toward your peak, but do not go dark in the quiet months, because that is when couples are researching for a date still well ahead of them and when your competitors have stopped bidding. Remember the table counts wedding dates, not enquiries, so your buying should lead the curve rather than sit on top of it.
Build the long audience first. Run portfolio Reels at 9:16 with sound, collect Page and Instagram engagers at 730 days, and let that pool mature while your competitors rebuild a 90-day lead audience every quarter. Show packages on five carousel cards, not ten. Send date enquiries into WhatsApp with a greeting that asks for the date. Keep the enquiry data somewhere you would be comfortable explaining to the Commissioner.
Then do the thing almost nobody does: write down your cost per booked date each month, next to the DOSM month share, and see whether your spend curve and the country's marriage curve actually line up. Most vendors discover they have been buying their heaviest reach in their quietest month. A searchable archive of Malaysian ads such as AdPlay.ai makes the look-back at what competing vendors ran last season fast, but the calendar work is yours. The data has been sitting on the DOSM portal the whole time, free, and your competitors are still guessing.

Frequently asked questions
When is wedding season in Malaysia?
There is no single wedding season, and this is the most expensive myth in the industry. The Department of Statistics Malaysia publishes marriages by month, and in 2024 the two communities peaked at opposite ends of the year. Muslim marriages, 137,595 of them, peaked in February at 19,798 (14.4% of the Muslim total) and bottomed in March at 6,732 (4.9%). Non-Muslim marriages, 52,709 of them, peaked in September at 5,773 (11.0%) and bottomed in August at 2,826 (5.4%). Across all marriages, February 2024 was the biggest month at 24,512 (12.9%), then December at 23,088 (12.1%). So the honest answer is that your season depends on which couples you serve, and you should read the current DOSM release rather than trusting a blog that names one month.
Does the peak wedding month change from year to year?
Yes, and this is why copying last year's ad calendar quietly fails. December was the top marriage month in 2023, at 24,231 (12.8%), and DOSM's own earlier release stated that December was also the most popular month of marriage in 2021. Then February overtook it in 2024. The trough moved too: April was the lowest month in 2023, at 9,850 (5.2%), while March was the lowest in 2024, at 11,328 (6.0%). Treat DOSM's monthly table as something you re-read each year when the release lands, not a fixed calendar you pin to the wall once. Note also that the November 2025 release reports 2024 data, so the most recent monthly figures always lag by roughly a year.
Why do the low marriage months keep moving?
The trough appears to track Ramadan, which shifts against the Gregorian calendar by roughly eleven days a year. Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 was declared for Saturday 22 April by the Keeper of the Ruler's Seal, and April 2023 was that year's lowest marriage month. Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2024 was officially declared for Wednesday 10 April by the Keeper of the Ruler's Seal, which placed Ramadan across March, and March 2024 was that year's lowest month. That is a strong observed correlation across two years, not a proven cause, and two years is a short series. The practical takeaway is sound regardless: check the current year's Islamic calendar before you set your budget, because February 2024's spike is not a promise about February 2027.
How long can I retarget people who watched my wedding videos?
Longer than most vendors realise, and this is the single most useful mechanic in the category. Per Meta's Marketing API documentation, the maximum retention for an engagement custom audience is not a flat 365 days as many marketing blogs claim. It is 730 days for a Facebook Page and 730 days for an Instagram business profile, while shopping and augmented reality are capped at 365 days and lead generation ads at only 90 days. Meta explains that different maximum retention days apply to each event source type for legal and privacy requirements. Page-likes audiences have no retention limit at all. A wedding is booked months to a year or more ahead of the date, so a Page or Instagram engager audience can hold a bride who watched your Reel right through her planning, while a lead-form audience expires long before she is ready to talk. You know your own lead times better than any published figure does, so check your enquiry log against your booked dates and size the window against that.
Should wedding vendors use lead forms or click-to-WhatsApp?
For date enquiries, WhatsApp usually fits better, because the first question a couple asks is whether a specific date is still free, and that is a conversation rather than a form field. Ads that click to WhatsApp require a Facebook Page with a WhatsApp number linked manually or via the API, support image, video, carousel and slideshow creative, and publish to Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. The default greeting is 'Hello! Can I get more info on this?' and you can customise it, so replace it with something that collects the date immediately. There is a second, less obvious reason to prefer it: the audience you build from lead generation ads expires after 90 days, while your Page and Instagram engagers last up to 730. Forms still make sense for slower flows such as booking a tasting.
How many cards should a wedding package carousel have?
Build five strong cards, not ten. Meta's Graph API reference specifies the carousel child attachments as a 2-5 element array of link objects, and you only reach ten cards by setting multi_share_optimized to true. Even then, Meta states it will automatically optimise the order in which the carousel cards are shown and display the top five. Meta also strongly recommends at least three attachments for optimal performance. So a vendor laying out a package ladder should assume five cards get seen and put the strongest work first, rather than building a ten-card brochure where half the cards may never be displayed.
What does a wedding lead cost on Facebook in Malaysia?
There is no verified Malaysia-specific cost per lead, cost per click, or cost per booking for wedding and event vendors in any reputable published source, so treat a confident ringgit figure as an estimate rather than a citation. The nearest solid data is American. WordStream's 2025 Facebook Ads benchmarks include a category explicitly labelled 'Personal Services (Weddings, Cleaners, etc.)', which recorded a cost per lead of USD 30.57 against an all-industry average of USD 27.66, with a 1.99% click-through rate, a USD 2.08 cost per click, and a 6.51% conversion rate, drawn from US campaigns between 1 April 2024 and 30 June 2025. Read it for shape, not value, and do not convert it into ringgit. Measure your own cost per booked date instead, because that is the only number that pays your bills.
Does PDPA apply to wedding vendors collecting couples' details?
Yes. The moment a lead form or a WhatsApp thread captures a name, a phone number and a wedding date, you are handling personal data. Federal Gazette P.U.(B) 522, dated 19 December 2024, staged the Personal Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2024 into force: sections 7, 11, 13 and 14 from 1 January 2025, sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 and 12 from 1 April 2025, and sections 6 and 9 from 1 June 2025. Note the Act is A1727, not A1719 as several secondary write-ups state. The Commissioner's circular on data breach notification requires notifying the Commissioner within 72 hours of a breach, and telling affected individuals within 7 days after that notification is made, where the breach causes or is likely to cause significant harm, with a fine of up to RM250,000 or up to two years' imprisonment for failing to notify. That circular is published in Bahasa Malaysia only, so confirm the wording at pdp.gov.my yourself.
